7 Qualities of a Good Aircon Servicing Company in Singapore
(and How to Check Them)
- ✍️ By City Cooling Pte Ltd
- 🏷 Aircon Servicing · Aircon Maintenance
Choosing an aircon servicing company in Singapore comes down to seven checks: properly certified technicians, a written quote, a clear servicing scope, reviews that hold up when you read them, a realistic appointment window, a workmanship warranty in writing, and experience with your brand and unit type. City Cooling Pte Ltd has serviced HDB flats, condos, landed homes and offices across Singapore since 2018.
This guide is the checklist we would want you to use on any company, including us. It is written for homeowners who already have two or three names and want a fair way to compare them before booking.
How do you choose an aircon servicing company in Singapore?
Pick the company that can prove each of the seven qualities below before any work starts, not the one with the lowest headline price. Ask for credentials, a written price, the servicing scope and the warranty terms in writing, then check its reviews and availability. A company that hesitates on these is already telling you something.
| Quality | How to check it | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Certified, trained technicians | Ask which certifications they hold and whether they handle your refrigerant | Vague answers such as “all our guys are experienced” |
| 2. Written, itemised quote | Ask for labour, parts, transport and GST in writing before work starts | No price until the job is finished |
| 3. Full servicing scope | Get the scope list in writing and check it on the day | A general service done in a few minutes |
| 4. Reviews that hold up | Read recent and three-star reviews, and the replies | Many short reviews with near-identical wording |
| 5. Realistic response time | Ask how bookings are confirmed and the time window | An appointment with no time window |
| 6. Workmanship warranty | Ask how long, what it covers and whether revisits are free | A warranty given verbally only |
| 7. Brand and unit experience | Ask whether they regularly service your brand and unit type | Hesitation over cassette or system units |
Are the technicians certified and trained for your refrigerant?
A good company can tell you which certifications its technicians hold and whether they are trained for the refrigerant in your unit. Many newer units use R32, while older ones use R410A or R22, and each needs the right tools and handling. Ask before you book, not when the technician is at your door.
Ask three things: what certifications and safety accreditation the company holds, who will actually come to your home, and whether that technician works on your refrigerant type. A legitimate company answers without hesitation and can show documents if you ask.
If you are not sure what a credential means, look it up on the issuing agency’s own website rather than relying on the company’s description of it. A badge on a website is a claim; a document you can check is evidence.
Will they give you a written, itemised quote before work starts?
They should. For general servicing, a reliable company can give you a fixed per-unit price before the visit. For repairs, gas top-ups or replacement parts, the price should be confirmed after inspection and before any work begins. A price that first appears on the invoice is not a quote.
An itemised quote lists labour, chemicals, replacement parts, any transport or call-out fee, and whether GST is included. Without that breakdown, two quotes cannot be compared fairly.
To compare quotes like for like, check that both cover the same number of units, the same unit types, the same service (general servicing, chemical wash or chemical overhaul) and the same warranty. A cheaper quote that skips the drain flush or adds a transport charge can cost more in the end. Our published pricing page is one benchmark you can use.
Does their standard servicing cover the full job?
Ask for the scope in writing. General servicing should at least cover the filters, the evaporator coil, the drainage pipe, a gas level check and a test of the electrical parts. If a company cannot tell you what its standard service includes, you have no way to judge whether a low price is good value.
- Indoor filters cleaned
- Evaporator coil cleaned
- Drainage pipe cleared
- Gas level checked
- Electrical parts tested
Use that list as a checklist on the day. Ask the technician to show you the filters before and after, and to tell you what they found in the drainage pipe and the gas level. A blocked drain pipe is the most common reason an aircon starts dripping, so a service that skips it is not a full service.
General servicing, chemical wash and chemical overhaul are different jobs at different prices. Our aircon servicing guide explains what each one involves and when you need it.
How do you read aircon servicing reviews properly?
Look for patterns, not the star rating. Read the most recent reviews, the three-star ones, and how the company replies to complaints. Repeated comments about turning up on time, explaining the work clearly and not pushing extra jobs tell you more than a high average built on short, similar reviews.
- Sort Google reviews by newest. Service quality can change as a company grows or changes staff.
- Read the middle reviews. Three-star reviews are often the most specific about what went right and what went wrong.
- Check the replies. A company that answers a complaint with a fix rather than an argument is likely to handle your problem the same way.
- Watch for repetition. A burst of reviews with near-identical wording is worth questioning.
Forum threads such as r/askSingapore on Reddit help you spot recent patterns, such as complaints about upselling, but treat single posts with care. They are one person’s account, often without the full story. Use them to decide what to ask, then get the answers from the company in writing.
How fast can they come, and do they keep the appointment window?
Find out the company’s same-day policy and how it confirms bookings before you need it. A leak or a unit that stops cooling should not wait a week in Singapore’s heat. A clear answer, a booking confirmation and a time window are better signs than a promise to come “anytime”.
Ask how quickly bookings are confirmed, whether same-day visits depend on a cut-off time, which days and hours technicians work, and whether weekend visits cost more. Get the time window in writing so you are not waiting at home all day.
How a company handles the booking is a fair preview of how it will handle a problem after the service.
What does their workmanship warranty actually cover?
A workmanship warranty covers the company’s own work, not the unit itself. Ask how long it lasts, which problems it covers, whether a return visit is free, and whether replaced parts have a separate warranty. Then make sure the terms appear in writing, on the quote or the invoice.
The manufacturer’s warranty covers defects in the unit and comes with its own conditions. A workmanship warranty is the servicing company’s promise that if its work causes a problem, such as water leaking soon after a service, it will come back and fix it without charging you again.
Ask what voids it, for example another company working on the unit in the meantime. A company that is confident in its work will explain the terms without being pushed.
Have they serviced your brand and unit type before?
Ask whether the company regularly services your brand and your type of unit. Wall-mounted units, ceiling cassettes, ducted units and multi-split systems are built differently, and a technician who knows yours will find faults faster and is less likely to damage parts.
This matters most for system units, older models and less common brands. If you have more than one brand at home, mention all of them when you book so the right technician and parts are sent.
It is also worth asking whether they carry common parts for your brand, or whether a second visit is usually needed to fit them. A second trip means another day of waiting and sometimes another charge.
What are the red flags of a bad aircon servicing company?
The biggest red flag is pressure. A cheap servicing visit followed by an urgent push to buy a chemical overhaul, a gas top-up or a new part on the spot is a common complaint on forums such as r/askSingapore. A good company explains what it found and gives you time to decide.
- A gas top-up offered without a leak check. If the gas is low, it has leaked somewhere, and topping up without fixing the leak is only a temporary fix. Our article on why aircon keeps losing gas explains why.
- “Today only” prices used to get you to agree to extra work immediately.
- No written price for anything beyond the standard service.
- Vague or irritated answers to questions about certifications, the warranty or what is included.
- A general service that takes only a few minutes per unit.
- No registered business name or address on the website or invoice.
One of these on its own may be nothing. Two or three together are a good reason to call someone else.
What should you ask before you book?
Copy these seven questions into WhatsApp or an email before you book. Any reliable company should be able to answer every one of them in writing.
- Which certifications do your technicians hold, and are they trained for my refrigerant type?
- Can you send me the price in writing, including transport, parts and GST?
- What exactly does your general servicing include?
- Where can I read your recent customer reviews?
- When is your earliest slot, and what time window will you give me?
- How long is your workmanship warranty, and what does it cover?
- Do you regularly service my brand (for example, Daikin) and my unit type (for example, wall-mounted)?

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I do aircon maintenance?
Every 3 to 4 months if you use your aircon daily. Homes with pets, smokers or heavy night-time use should service every 3 months, and offices monthly or quarterly.
What's included in regular servicing?
General servicing covers cleaning the indoor filters and evaporator coils, clearing the drainage pipe, checking the gas level and testing the electrical parts.
When should I consider replacing my air conditioner?
If your air conditioner is more than 10 years old and requires frequent repairs, replacement may be a more cost-effective option.
Can I top up gas without fixing a leak?
Should I get more than one aircon servicing quote?
Yes, for anything beyond general servicing. A second quote shows you what a normal scope and price look like for your job. Compare quotes for the same units, the same service and the same warranty, or the comparison will mislead you.
Is the cheapest aircon servicing company a good choice?
It can be, if the scope matches. A low price is good value when the written scope covers the filters, coil, drainage and a gas check. It is poor value if it is used to get into your home and sell you extra work on the spot.
Are Reddit threads a good way to find an aircon servicing company?
They are useful for spotting recent patterns, such as complaints about upselling or missed appointments, but weak proof on their own. Use them to shortlist companies and decide what to ask, then check reviews and get a written quote.
What should I check before letting an aircon technician into my home?
Confirm the company name, price, servicing scope and warranty in writing before the visit. When the technician arrives, check they are from the company you booked and ask them to explain any extra work before they start it.
