What is aircon condenser cleaning?
Every split aircon has an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. The outdoor unit is the condenser. The compressor sits inside it, which is why many people simply call the whole unit "the compressor".
The condenser’s coil and thin metal fins release the heat taken out of your rooms. In Singapore they collect dust, leaves, pollution and construction grit all year. Once the fins clog, heat cannot escape, the unit runs hotter and longer, and your rooms take longer to cool.
General servicing cleans the indoor units only, and our servicing contracts do not include the condenser either. That is why the outdoor unit needs its own clean. For deep cleaning of the indoor unit, see chemical overhaul.

Normal service or chemical wash: which does your condenser need?
Most condensers only need a normal service. Choose a chemical wash when the coil is heavily soiled.

How we clean your condenser
- Switch off and isolate. We switch off the aircon and isolate the power before touching the outdoor unit.
- Protect the area. We check the access and cover the ledge, walls and window frame where needed.
- Clear and brush. We remove leaves and debris and brush loose dust off the fins.
- Wash the coil. Water for a normal service; a coil-cleaning chemical and a full rinse for a chemical wash.
- Check and test. We check the fan, switch the system back on and test the cooling.
Ledge access: most condensers in Singapore sit on an HDB aircon ledge. In most HDB flats we reach the condenser through the window beside the ledge or through the service yard, so please keep those areas clear before the visit. Read more about HDB aircon ledge rules.

Will condenser cleaning lower my electricity bill?
It can, when the coil is clogged. A clean condenser releases heat more easily, so the compressor does not have to run as long to cool your rooms.
Is condenser cleaning included in a servicing contract?
